Duncan Rheingans-Yoo

I am a trader at a New York-based proprietary trading firm and an independent researcher in the fields of EconCS and market design. I currently live in and work remotely from Orono, Maine.

In 2020, I graduated from Harvard with an A.B. magna cum laude with Highest Honors in Computer Science. My undergraduate thesis, “Reinforcement Learning for Indirect Mechanism Design,” presented a broad parametric class of indirect mechanisms and applied reinforcement learning techniques to learn efficient mechanisms within a particular subclass. I was advised by David Parkes.

At Harvard, I did research as an Economic Design Fellow working with Scott Kominers at the Center of Mathematical Sciences and Applications and as a Research Fellow working with David Parkes and Hongyao Ma as part of Harvard College’s Program for Research in the Sciences and Engineering (PRISE). I served as a Teaching Fellow for CS 136: Economics and Computation and was a two-time co-captain of Harvard’s Varsity Fencing Team.

I enjoy research in {mechanism design, artificial intelligence, market design, ridesharing}, as well as teaching, poker, musical theater, and strategy games. I consider myself an aspiring rationalist and effective altruist. My Erdős number is 4.
